CircleUp is a technology company on a mission to help entrepreneurs thrive by giving them the capital and resources they need. CircleUp Growth Partners is a $125m venture fund within CircleUp with 24 portfolio companies, with the aspiration of 30 by mid-year and 100+ in the next three years.  There will be an opportunity to grow this role to work with other businesses within CircleUp, including industry leaders leveraging our Helio Access Program.   We are a firm built on technology, with our proprietary machine learning and predictive analytics platform -- Helio -- being a driving force behind sourcing and analyzing investments, and providing post close value add to the entrepreneurs we support.  However, there is a need to build on that, developing an inclusive and value-add community for the entrepreneurs we support.  We are excited to hire a Head of Community to help us develop and shape this resource for the founders we serve.   CircleUp was recently honored as one of Fast Company's Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Data Science and has been named a CB Insights FinTech 250, a Top 5 Most Disruptive Company in Finance by CNBC, and to the Forbes FinTech 50. The Community Engagement Associate will be responsible for building platforms and resources needed to support founders in our community.  We want to pair our leading edge technology capabilities with other value added services and events with our mission of “Helping entrepreneurs thrive by giving them the capital and resources they need” always in mind.  Building this community will entail authentic engagement and a passion for start ups and the founder journey. In that vein, approximately 20% of this role will focus on working with the CEO and internal stakeholders to develop an external communications strategy, including overseeing the execution of strategy (by others) and conducting quality control checks.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating systems, tools, resources, and training needed to support our Community Founders
  • Host monthly digital value add events for portfolio companies and broader CPG community. 
  • Work with the CircleUp Growth Partner team to develop communication strategy to leverage these events and increase our brand awareness.  
  • Host in-person entrepreneur day for portfolio companies (when determined safe)
  • Develop and maintain preferred vendor lists across a variety of categories (outsourced CFO, brand manager, influencer strategy, for example), securing discounts for portfolio brands.  
  • Integrate yourself in the InnerCircle (network of 200+ CPG brands) to understand the needs of community members. 
  • Evaluate communication system to manage and coordinate interactions of an online founder community
  • Tackle pre- and post-investment special projects as neededManaging CircleUp Pioneer Program, network of successful early stage founders dedicated to helping CGP portfolio companies succeed.  
  • Identifying key themes for each audience type, eg. tech, fundraising, inclusion (consistent)
  • Managing contractors (ghost writers, PR, editors), internal content creators, advisors (eg subject matter experts on topic X) including: - Managing topic/medium owners and distribution  - Format, eg. blogs, webinars, awards, media, podcasts, social - Cadence, eg. how often do we push content for each topic - Consistency of look / feel / tone (established via brand redesign)  - What milestones trigger a standard comms protocol (eg investment/exit) and what is protocol for each type of event   - Who drafts the content, when is draft due, who signs off, when do we engage contractors, who oversees contractors

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience managing corporate events and/or community development
  • Active participant within the entrepreneurial community, ideally with a preexisting network in CPG
  • Customer service-minded with a strong ability to empathize with founders and colleagues while simultaneously managing expectations
  • Fluency with online event platforms and the ability to effectively leverage digital tools and resources.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster cooperation among diverse individuals online and offline.
