Head of Communications

CircleUp is seeking a Head of Communications to lead our communications and PR efforts and to shape the narrative on the future of quantitative investing in the private markets. The Head of Communications will report to our Chief Operating Officer and will be responsible for crafting how our story is told in the press, social media, CircleUp’s blog, and other online and offline channels.

CircleUp leverages Helio, a proprietary predictive analytics platform, to source, evaluate, invest, and add value to fast-growing consumer & retail companies. Your Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the COO and CEO — and other members of the team — to proactively identify external opportunities, to share our story, and to celebrate the entrepreneurs we work with
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans – including award strategy, content strategy, and press strategy
  • Manage media relationships with journalists, editors, pundits and other thought leaders
  • Work closely with our product team and investment teams to support new launches and funding announcements
  • Work with the COO to manage CircleUp’s internal communications
  • Support the team for media interviews, conference presentations, industry events and awards

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas with simple clarity, both written and verbal
  • Ability to shape public conversation with a strong thought leadership point of view
  • Resourceful self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively
  • High energy hustler who has the desire and ability to run through walls
  • Demonstrates the confidence to fully own a communication strategy and the humility to do the sometimes thankless work of copy editing, story pitching, and award submissions
  • Unparalleled creativity and ability to proactively create story lines
  • Superb relationship building
  • Positive attitude, and drive
  • 5+ years of experience having built relevant media relationships and a proven track record of press placements
  • Experience with data-enabled technology is very helpful
  • Experience with financial services is very helpful
  • Interest in democratizing investing using data is a must
